Chevy's mid-engine Corvette shows more styling cues

Another, more production-looking C8 Corvette mule has been spotted in camouflage — this time near Cadillac, Mich.

That’s a far cry from the company’s proving grounds in Milford, Mich., meaning the prototype mid-engine Corvettes must be on a road-trip test run.

The new photos show a true mid-engine layout with a shorter hood and long, sloping rear end, presumably where the engine sits. Its shape looks a lot like a Ferrari 458/488, which bodes well for the upcoming supercar.

There are likely a lot of engine choices for this next world beater; Chevrolet’s 650-hp LT4 comes to mind, but a simpler LT1 with 500 horses or so could also work.

The other big question is price. Will it be a budget mid-engine lightning bolt or a nuclear-powered track monster a la the Porsche 911 GT2? That could mean the difference between $ 100,000 and $ 200,000.

The different wheels on the prototype also look like production pieces.

Some analysts believe the new ‘Vette could made an appearance at the 2018 Detroit auto show.

The photos were taken by Woodward Facebook group member Josh Busenbark, and they were pointed out to us by reader Adam.
